Mommy Makeover ®

Female Silhouette Enhancement

Mommy Makeover® is the name given to several surgeries carried out in a single operation to allow the female silhouette to recover after motherhood.

After pregnancy, most women experience permanent changes in their body aesthetics. These are most evident in the breasts and abdomen, but also in some localised fat that doesn’t disappear as body weight drops.

This concept has existed for many years in plastic surgery, but was popularised under the name Mommy Makeover® in Anglo-Saxon literature. It consists of restoring the female silhouette after motherhood, and is usually associated with the following surgeries:

  • Breast surgery;
  • Abdominal surgery;
  • Liposculpture of localised fat;
  • Intimate surgery (can be combined, if necessary, to restore the aesthetics of the pubis and vagina).

These are long surgeries that require precise and thorough surgical planning. Ideally, patients should have a body weight as close to ideal as possible and no earlier than 9 months post-maternity.

Depending on the patient’s health, a full clinical history and complementary diagnostic tests are essential, and I clarify the limits of surgery ….. My main concern is patient safety.

These are surgeries with a very high level of satisfaction, contributing decisively to the physical and psychological well-being of the patients.

Surgery

The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or epidural and sedation. It lasts an average of 3-5 hours.

It is recommended that the patient be hospitalised for two days, so that she can have all the medical care at the clinic and then go home safely and comfortably.

Women leave the clinic wearing a post-operative bra and a compression garment.

After major surgery, rest is essential. That’s why the support of family/friends or a housekeeper is crucial for an uneventful recovery.

Post-surgery

The most important indications are

  • Rest;
  • Local ice and the use of a compression garment and bra recommended
  • Do not wet surgical wounds;
  • Lymphatic drainage will be recommended, as in many other surgeries, and should be started when the surgeon allows it.

These recommendations are essential for 7 days.

The patient return to her socio-professional live, on average 20-30 days later, in non-manual jobs.
